The so-called Anzac Day is celebrated on April 25 in Australia as a national holiday to honor their European imperial soldiers who died fighting Ottoman army during Allied forces invasion of the Gallipoli Peninsula en route to take Constantinople on April 25, 1915. The invasion was unsuccessful and the Allied forces withdrew in 1916.
This year, the Australian organized Jewry was infuriated by a post on Facebook which reminded Australians that on Anzac Day they should also remember that currently both Palestine and Syria are also victims of Western colonists.
The reminder was posted by Sudanese-Australian Muslim engineering student, author, speaker, and women rights activist Yassmin Abdel-Magied (listen to her below). She removed the political wrong statement within hours under pressure from her employer, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation – an Australian version of UK’s BBC.
On April 29, the UK’s Israeli propaganda mouthpiece Daily Mail accused Yassmin for wasting $11,000 taxpayers’ money on her ABC-sponsored book tour of several Arab countries including Israel last year. The paper also claimed that Yassmin had never condemned genital mutilation.
On April 27, David Stephens at the UK’s Guardian wrote: “Lest. We. Forget (Manus, Nauru, Syria, Palestine) she said. And off we went, on another Anzac Day witch-hunt, rather like the Scott McIntyre one two years ago, but this seemed to have a harder edge because Abdel-Magied was black, Muslim, noisy, a woman, and wore a hijab, where McIntyre was or did none of those things.”
“It’s shame that Abdel-Magied withdrew her remarks and apologized,” said Stephens, “Australia needs more feisty, outspoken people like Abdel-Magied.”
Australian academic and writer, Dr. Gideon Polya wrote on April 28: “Abdel-Magied’s post was correct and her silencing by rabid jingoists is a stain on Australia and an attack on free speech.”
“Australia is an enthusiastic participant in the US War on Muslims (aka the US War on Terror) that has been associated with 32 million Muslims deaths from violence, 5 million, or deprivation, 27 million, in 20 countries invaded by the US Alliance since the US Government’s 9-11 false flag atrocity that killed 3,000 people, overwhelmingly Americans. There are presently 65 million refugees in the World with about half being Muslim refugees from genocidal wars conducted by the US and its allies, notably the UK, Australia, Canada, France and US-, UK-, Australia- , Canada- and France-backed Apartheid Israel,” Dr. Polya added.
