India’s US$530 million statue of Shivaji

Never mind that half of India’s population (550 million) lives below the poverty line – but wasting rupees 3,600 crores ($530 million) to show Hindu superiority over Muslim is a worthy cause.

Last week, India’s prime minister Nirendra Modi flew down to Mumbai to lay the foundation stone for a statue of Hindu warlord Shivaji who fought Muslim Mughal rulers, and other Hindu state rulers.

The statue will be more than twice the size of the Statue of Liberty and five times higher than Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.

The structure, a pet project of the 2002 Muslim mass murderer, former Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, will rise 192 metres from an island off the western coast of Mumbai in the Arabian Sea.

Even in the midst of struggle, Shivaji Maharaj remained a torchbearer of good governance. So many aspects of his personality inspire us,” Modi said at the inaugural event.

When finished, it will tower over the 128-metre Spring Temple Buddha in China’s Henan province that is currently the world’s tallest statue.

The BJP government of Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, is expected to spend some 36 billion rupees ($530 million) on the statue, which is scheduled for completion by 2019.

The Hindu extremists historians like the Zionist serial liars, would do anything to distort Muslim history.

Hindu historian Govind Pansare, author of book, Who was Shivaji? lost his life for claiming in the book that Shivaji (1627-80) though a practicing Hindu warrior but attacked both Muslim and Hindu rulers. “Shivaji was an able king who did not discriminate on the basis of religion and constantly worked to better the lives of peasants and other oppressed communities?,” said Pansare.

In fact, Shivaji was a warmongering coward like Netanyahu. Shivaji fought against Bijapur Sultanate, Deccan Nawabs, British East India Company, and the Muslim Sultans. Afzal Khan was one of Sultan Adil Ali Shah II of Bijapur’s military General. The armies of Shivaji and Afzal Khan faced each other at Pratabgad Fort near the town of Satara. In order to negotiate a peace-treaty between Shivaji and the Sultan – both Shivaji and Afzal Khan agreed to meet each other face to face unarmed at an agreed neutral place. When Shivaji entered the tent – Afzal Khan hugged Shivaji to show his friendship. Shivaji who had a ‘tiger-claw’ dagger hidden within his clenched fist – stabbed Afzal Khan behind with his armed-fist. Afzal Khan ran out of the tent toward his Palki with blood gushing out of his wound. Shivaji’s bodyguards rushed to the tent to protect their king from Afzal Khan’s bodyguards. Shivaji ordered his army to attack Afzal Khan’s army, which could not fight without their commander and was routed out. The severed head of Afzal Khan was presented to Shivaji’s mother, Jijabai, as vengeance for her husband and her eldest son Sambhaji, who were killed at the hands of Afzal Khan earlier (here).

The statue project has been criticized not only for the waste of money to rewrite Hindu history, but also over the environment and marine concerns. During the foundation ceremony, hundreds of fishermen staged a protest over loss of their livelihood.

Professor T. Navin (Jawaharlal Nehru University) said: “Given the fact that Shivaji gets depicted as a Hindu warrior fighting the Muslims and its importance for promoting Hindutva agenda, it is not surprising that hundreds of saffron flags flew during the foundation laying ceremony of the statue. The Hindutva advocates see in Shivaji a symbolism for promoting their concept of Hindu Rashtra through propagation of anti-minority attitude. Statue remains a means for reinforcing this mindset and promoting Hindutva.”

Ujjal Dosanjh, former premier of British Columbia (Canada), in an open letter has blasted Modi government over wasting money to satisfy its Hindu ego, saying: “Building a statue is not going to feed anyone, it’s not gong to clothe anybody, it is not going to provide schools.”
