On May 28, 2015, the Oxford Union Society, an international forum, held a debate on the motion: “This house believes Britain owes reparations to her former colonies“. The six speakers (three in favor and three against the motion) included Dr. Shashi Tharoor, an Indian Congress MP from Kerala state and Sir Richard Ottaway, British MP from David Cameron’s Tory party.
Tharoor said: “India’s share of the economy when Britain arrived at its shores was 23 per cent. By the time British left, it was below down to 4 per cent. Why? simply because India had been governed for the benefit of Britain. Britain’s rise for 200 years was financed by its depredations in India.” Watch a video and full transcript of his speech here.
India’s Muslim-hating prime minister, Rajendra Modi, congratulated both Dr. Tharoor and his Congress Party for telling Brits the truth.
Sir Richard Ottaway spoke against the motion claiming that British colonies were better off under the Crown than now as independent states. He also said: “We have moved on from colonialism. Some object to colonial oppression, but there were sacrifice on both sides.”
Well, I got to ignore Ottaway’s mass ignorance, as the United Kingdom still holds 14 Oversea Territories that are remnant of the former British Raj. These colonies (Territories) are not part of UK like Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but they do remain under London’s jurisdiction.
Ottaway, a retired Lieutenant of British army and former chair of UK’s Foreign Affairs Committee has a long history of campaigning for Germany, Poland, Switzerland, etc. to pay reparations to the survivors and Israel for the crimes their ancestors committed against Jews.
Last year, during a debate in the parliament over the recognition of Palestinian state, Ottaway poured his heart out in defense of the Zionist entity. “I was a friend of Israel long before I became a Tory. My wife’s family was instrumental in the creation of the Jewish state, some of them were with Weizmann (later first president of Zionist entity) at the Paris conference. the Holocaust had a deep impact on me growing up as a young man in the aftermath of WWII,” he said.
Jamaican High Commissioner in London, Aloun Ndombet-Assamba rejected Ottaways’ Zionist self-denial.
American history professor William Roger Louis also spoke against the motion. He has claimed in his several books on British Imperialism and establishment of the Zionist entity that Israel is not a product British colonialism.
The House concluded by majority that Britain owes reparation to her former colonies.
On July 29, Franz-Stefan Gady at Jewish Diplomat magazine reminded Dr. Tharoor that it was British colonial rule that gave India a ‘free press’, which eventually brought-down British empire.
Interestingly, professor Rohan D’Souza (Kyoto University), have blamed both Dr. Tharoor and Modi being hypocrites for preaching others past history while erasing India’s past history and hiding their own actions.
US-born Canadian war reporter, journalist and author, Eric Margolis, made a beautiful comparison between Britain and India. He said that when London was home to 15,000 ‘unwashed’ people – Muslim Mughals had created the greatest civilization in India. How sad, there is no Free Press in Britain now. In fact, it’s entirely controlled by Zionist Jews.
