“The West interprets veiling as repression of women and suppression of their sexuality. But when I traveled in Muslim countries and was invited to join a discussion in women-only settings within Muslim homes, I learned that Muslim attitudes toward women’s appearance and sexuality are not rooted in repression, but in a strong sense of public versus private, of what is due to God and what is due to one’s husband. It’s not that Islam suppresses sexuality, but that it embodies a strongly developed sense of its appropriate channeling – toward marriage, the bonds that sustain family life, and the attachment that secures a home,” – Naomi Wolf, an American Jewish feminist in her article titled ‘ Behind the veil lives a thriving Muslim sexuality’.
I did not know Ms Noami Wolf until I watched her being interviewed by Riz Khan on Al-Jazeera in my Istanbul hotel a few days ago and decided to read more about this open-minded American female rights activist and author of such books as ‘The Beauty Myth’, ‘The End of America’, ‘Give Me Liberty’, and many more. Naomi told Riz Khan that during her travel to several Muslim countries – she was treated with more respect and love in the Muslim homes than she could ever expect similar treatment in the Jewish homes. She also said that instead of listening to their politicians – Jewish and Muslim communities should try to understand each other and stop hating each other. That way they would be able to live together in Palestine as one nation.
Naomi Wolf was born into a San Francisco Jewish family in 1962. Both her parents, Leonard Wolf and Deborah Goleman were also authors. She graduated from Jewish-dominated Yale University where she experienced her first case of sexual harassment from her professor Dr. Harold Bloom. Her sexual harassment claim – blaming a Jewish professor – unleashed Zionist dogs on her. She was targetted with usual name-calling by Zionist thugs using Jewish-owned news-media such as ‘The New York Observer’, ‘The Wall Street Journal’, ‘The Washington Post’, ‘Slate Magazine’, ‘New York Press’, etc.
In an interview with a fellow Jewish anti-war activist, Amy Goodman, for Democracy Now – Naomi Wolf said: “Lenin (a Jew) pioneered secret prisons; Mussolini developed the confino system, and Hitler (allegedly Jewish) studied Mussolini and developed the People Courts. And what start to happen is – and this is what’s so scary about Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib and these black sites around the world – apart from the moral issue – and your interview just now with the Palestinian representative brought me to tears, because when he said it’s not just the Palestinians he’s concerned about, it’s the Israelis who lose their souls by this kind of occupation – it’s not just the often innocent prisoners in Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib and these black sites around the world we should be concerned about, it’s our own American souls that are at stake. But just for purely personal reasons, we should be afraid when State start to torture people that it sees as the margins; brown people on an island in Guantanamo with Muslim names, whatever. That is what they (Catholic and Jewish Nazis) did in Germany in 31 and 32: anarchists, communists, Gypsies, Jews, whatever, homosexuals, whatever…..”
